Dear Lilla,
Elemis
I can confirm that Elemis do not and never have tested any of our products on animals, I can provide you with the following information regarding this.
Animal Testing Policy
Elemis Ltd has always been against animal testing. Elemis has never and will never test on animals. Nor has Elemis ordered such tests by any third parties.
Elemis specialises in natural caring ingredients of the highest quality and safety. All finished products have been extensively tested over time, on our own staff, human volunteers and or by non-animal laboratory trials.
The European Cosmetic Directive banned all animal testing of finished products from September 2004 and ingredients used within products from March 2009. They enforce this directive and dictate what is safe and what’s not. Elemis strongly supports this position and will do everything possible to keep driving non-animal testing alternatives and always approach development in an ethical manner.
We do not use slaughterhouse waste in any of our products. None of our perfumes contain animal extracts and we do not use whale or blubber oils. We do make use of honey, beeswax, milk, milk whey and eggs.
We continue to work alongside partners and suppliers who share our beliefs and who approach their day-to-day operations in an ethical manner, purchasing accordingly.
Elemis wishes to contribute to your well-being by promoting safe, high quality spa and skincare products, with ease of mind and conscience.
Animal Testing Policy Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Do we operate a fixed cut-off date for ingredients tested on animals?
A. The European Cosmetic Directive has set a fixed cut-off date of March 2009. The majority of ingredients in the marketplace launched well before this date and will have been tested on animals at some point in their lifetime, maybe decades ago. It is impossible to remove all of these products from the marketplace. Our position on this is in line with other cruelty free organisations, that we will endeavour to choose the safest, most ethical ingredients possible and help drive non-animal testing alternatives.
In relation to your comments regarding our packaging, I will ensure that they are noted and passed on to our Marketing Department for their reference. I can assure you that we take all customer feedback extremely seriously whether it be positive or negative and do use this feedback to guide our future decisions. Your comments are therefore appreciated.

Good Morning Lilla,
Julep
Hi Lilla,
Thank you for your inquiry about Julep products. We absolutely DO NOT test on animals! Never have, never will! We only “test” on humans. One of the great things about Julep is we have 4 Nail Parlors and amazing customers that let us test and try products on them all the time! Some of our products do contain animal-derived ingredients (milk, beeswax, etc). Here are some products that are VEGAN: Facial for Hands Glycolic Hand Scrub, Julep Essential Cuticle Oil, and any non-red nail polish.
Another great thing about our products is that they are “4 Free”. Unlike some other nail polish brands, our formula does not contain 4 of the most harmful chemicals commonly found in nail polish. We use NO paraben, NO sulphate phthalate, NO DBP, and they are tolene and formaldehyde FREE. We like to say that we took out all of the nasty carcinogens that are found in so many other products.
We hope this convinces you even more how Julep can be a brand you will be proud to wear. Please do not hesitate to follow up with us if you have any other questions or concerns. Until next time, have a wonderful day Lilla!

We closely examine all ingredients and products before they go on the market to ensure that all products meet the safety expectations outlined in the PCPC Consumer Commitment Code, US FDA and EU regulations, and many other recognized regulatory agencies. Additionally, current plans do not include the use of animals in the development of new products.
Kate Spade
thank you for contacting kate spade new york.
thank you for contacting kate spade to ask about our animal testing policies. here’s the scoop: we don’t test our products on animals and it’s been our policy to ban the use of animal-derived ingredients in any our cosmetic products.
we also ensure our cosmetic division only orders from suppliers whose materials are already in use and have proven to be safe. if there are any hiccups with the ingredients, we avoid them and therefore avoid new testing.oOn another style note, we safety test our products through an outside agency (not affiliated with kate spade) to make sure everything is safe for people, too. we want to make sure there’s no potential for irritation or sensitization. if it doesn’t pass, we go back and rework it before putting it on the shelves.
thanks for taking the time to ask us about this important topic!
Lipcote
Dear Ms Heins

Misslynn
Dear Mrs. Heins,
Thank you for your request which implies your interest in Misslyn products.
Misslyn is part of the ARTDECO cosmetic group.
This is Misslyn’s attitude towards animal testing:
Misslyn does not conduct any tests on animals for its cosmetic products nor does it have any animal testing performed on its behalf.
Animal testing for decorative cosmetic products has been prohibited under the German Animal Welfare Act since 1986. Tests on animals for all cosmetic finished products have been banned since 1998.
A corresponding ban has been in place since March 2011 for cosmetic raw materials as well, which Misslyn expressly welcomes.
Pursuant to this legislation, raw materials developed for use in cosmetics may no longer be tested for compatibility on animals.
Raw materials developed for cosmetics before this time point were not necessarily tested on animals. However, some of them were tested using in-vivo experiments (tests on animals).
In order to conduct all future testing of raw materials exclusively by means of in-vitro tests (test tube experiments), these procedures are being continuously further developed and new methods researched. Misslyn has no knowledge of the raw materials used in products being tested with in-vivo tests.
In order to minimize incompatibilities, Misslyn conducts internal application tests or patch tests (epicutaneous tests) used to determine the local compatibility of a product.
Misslyn is against animal testing.
Motives Cosmetics
Market America does not conduct or commission animal testing of any ingredient or finished product. We may, however, reference animal studies that support ingredient benefits performed by third parties and available to the industry. The fact that a study supports an ingredient claim, does not mean we have participated in, supported or commissioned the study.

PZ Cussons Beauty
Thank you for your email and for your interest in our Charles Worthington products.
We are happy to inform you that we can definitively confirm that PZ Cussons Beauty LLP do not test any products on animals, nor do we have any testing conducted by third parties on our behalf.
In the United Kingdom animal testing has not taken place on cosmetic products since 1997, nor have their ingredients since 1998. However, even before these dates PZ Cussons Beauty LLP did not test products on animals due to a voluntary industry initiative which led to all licences for such testing being withdrawn. In the European Union, a complete ban on the testing of cosmetic products on animals was introduced by the European cosmetic legislation in September 2004. This reinforced the voluntary action by the European industry to seek alternatives.
PZ Cussons Beauty LLP also supports the fund for replacement of animals in medical testing organisation (http://www.frame.org.uk/). FRAME is dedicated to the development of new and valid methods that will replace the need for laboratory animals in medical and scientific research, education, and testing.

Our final products tolerance and effectiveness are evaluated in-vitro (laboratories) and in-vivo (on volunteer individuals).

TIGI
Since 1985, our goal at TIGI Linea, L.P. (TIGI) has been to supply the highest quality hair care and cosmetic products to beauty salons, beauty supply stores, and cosmetology academies throughout the world. Our manufacturers supply us with the finest ingredients for these hair care and cosmetic products.
An important part of our goal has always been to adhere to the highest industry standards in the manufacture and sale of our hair care and cosmetic products, most importantly-no animal testing. We can assure you that TIGI and all of our manufacturers have never tested TIGI’s finished products on animals.
Additionally, TIGI is the owner of the trademarks BED HEAD® and Catwalk®, as well as over 160 other registered trademarks for specific products worldwide. You have our assurance that none of our trademarked hair care and cosmetic products are tested on animals.
Here is a paragraph explaining why it doesn’t state our policy on our products:
The latest amendment (7th amendment) of the European Regulations bans the claim of “Not Tested on Animals” on any cosmetic product. The only way we could claim “Not Tested on Animals” is by having substantiation from our manufacturers, their raw suppliers and the suppliers of the raw suppliers that the ingredients are not and have never been tested on animals, making it impossible for cosmetic companies and TIGI to track that information down. We removed the claims we had on the bottles to ensure that there was no misrepresentation. In the United States there is not a law about animal testing but it is impossible to make these claims having an international package. For this reason, we can only guarantee by request that TIGI and our manufacturers do not test on animals.

Youngblood Cosmetics
Does Youngblood test on animals?
No. We do not test any of our products on animals. Many of our formulations are made with plant- and vegetable-derived ingredients including numerous vegan options (see next question). We are proudly included in PETA’s (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) cruelty-free program. For example, the bristles for our natural brushes are acquired from hair clippings ? without harm to the animals.
Additionally, Youngblood supports the environment. Most of the packaging is made from recyclable materials, and our cartons are produced on Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified stock with soy ink. The FSC also certifies the black wooden handles on our brushes.
Does Youngblood offer gluten-free and vegan products?
Gluten-free consumer goods do not contain ingredients derived from wheat, barely or rye. Youngblood is pleased to offer gluten-free products, with the exception of Lipstick and Mineral Lash Prime.
We do not use any animal by-products in our formulas (with the exception of beeswax and carmine).

Victoria’s Secret does not test its products on animals, nor does it request any of our third party manufacturers, or anyone else, to perform such tests on its behalf. We utilize ingredients in our formulations that are judged safe, and we do not ask the supplier of those ingredients to perform any such tests on animals.
Victoria’s Secret does not use any animal byproducts in its formulations where the animal is either slaughtered or harmed for the sole purpose of obtaining that material. We do condone the use of animal derived products where the animal is not harmed; for example, lanolin, milk, eggs, etc.

Howdy would you mind stating which blog platform you’re using? I’m planning to start my own blog soon but I’m having a hard time selecting between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your layout seems different then most blogs and I’m looking for something completely unique.
P.S My apologies for being off-topic but I had to ask!
I’m using WordPress… It is quite helpful and there are a lot of different themes and extras you can use, but it can be a bit slow to use and sometimes formatting goes weird. Hope that was helpful, and good luck with your blog!

while a lot of the companies are not tested on animals they could be owned by a parent company that does test of animals for example nars…… or they dont test theyre products on animals but they sell in china lik e the sephora brand whish requires them to test on animals
Yes, on my list I have marked companies who are owned by testing parents, and I am aiming to remove all of those that sell in China 🙂
Hey! I have reasently startet with not jusing animal-tested stuff, and I wondering if you knew if Bioderma test on animals or not? I have searched for a long time, but some say they test and some say they don’t.
Can you help me?:)
So I didn’t find any mention of them in the PETA Don’t Test list and they are (I believe) producing their products in Europe, which should mean they are forbidden to test on animals within the EU. However, they could still sell to China or test outside the EU. I think I have also tried contacting them before, but I cannot find a response. I have just contacted them now, so we’ll see!
here Kao indicates in a reply to another blogger that they do test…http://quickcheapandpretty.blogspot.com/2012/08/company-reply-kao-brands-home-of-ban.html
and ban is not on any cruelty free lists(which i guess is moot because their brand doesn’t work anyways!)
Also I have read responses from Nars that indicate that they sell in China now and follow Shiseido’s lead…?
I will check it out, thanks!

I’m told that Batiste sell in China, and hence, DO test on animals.
I have looked into this, and have not been able to find any evidence of this. If you come across some, please link me!
Thanks, Lilla
Many of these companies say their products aren’t tested – nothing about ingredients. Do you ask any of them about that?
No, the idea is to keep it general. The purpose of the statements is so that you yourself can decide how much you want to trust the companies.
I contacted Batiste and they ARE NOT cruelty free. “We seek to use only materials already known to be safe, and we avoid animal testing whenever complete and satisfactory information exists to show that our products are safe. As a result of these policies, animal testing has become a last resort, and Church & Dwight has experienced considerable success avoiding such testing through this practice, especially on our Consumer Products.”
Thank you, i will make sure to check it out
So sad… Paula Begoun has moved Algenist to the “does test on animals” category on her website http://www.paulaschoice.com/beautypedia-product-reviews/animal-testing/
They were in the “does not test” category as recently as a month ago.
I just sent Algenist an email to find out what they say.
Thanks for the update! I will make sure to check it out…
I forgot to report back on what they said! Here’s the Algenist reply from Feb 2015. So sad; I take this to mean that their products may in fact be tested in China. If someone can confirm for me otherwise that would be awesome but without knowing more, I’m not buying them anymore. 😦
Hello,
Thank you for your interest in Algenist! Algenist is an animal-friendly skincare line that does not conduct animal testing on its products. Algenist products are sold in China, through our licensed reseller Sephora (Algenist does not sell products directly to the markets in China).
Algenist is committed to eliminating animal testing. Innovative solutions are core to our brand and these solutions do not start or stop with a finished product. We are committed to the entire process of product development- from R&D, to production, to how products are brought to market. Ethical practices and procedures are important to us in every step of the value chain, and we believe in finding new, innovative solutions to product and ingredient testing. To that end, we do not conduct animal testing, nor ask others to test on our behalf, unless demanded by the government or regulatory processes to do so. We evaluate our finished products in clinical tests on volunteer panels. Algenist fully supports the development and global adoption of non-animal testing practices.
Thank you! I’m honestly not sure on the policy for this, I’m assuming then Sephora has to submit them for testing? I have removed Algenist in any case.

Hi, just wanted to let you know that algenist is still on your list even though they admit to animal testing “when required,” which is always for products they sell in China (testing occurs in the states).
Thanks! I will verify
